3SM - South Staffordshire Society Of Magicians

One of the key points when The South Staffordshire Society Of Magicians was formed, was that it is very important to get members up performing for their fellow magicians and laymen, with this in mind the 3SM holds 3 competitions a year, plus many other nights that encourage the performance of magic.
		Pocket Tricks Drive The rules are simple, perform 1 effect, the contents of which must fit in your pocket, the evening works on a rotation format with everyone performing their effect to small groups, everyone who performs also judges and the scores are added up and averaged out. The winner receives a trophy.

South Staffordshire Close Up Magician Of The Year Usually held around February, the close up competition is one of the many highlights of the 3SM's calendar, judged by 2 laymen and one magical judge, the winner receives a trophy to keep with the title 'South Staffordshire Close Up Magician Of The Year' and also 'The Christopher Congreave Shield' to hold for one year. There is also a small trophy awarded for 'Highest Ranking Amateur'. 2011/12 Winner: Paul Pickford Most original performance style: Damon Conlan Most original effect: Craig Davies

		South Staffordshire Stage Magician Of The Year This year was our first Stage & Cabaret Competition and it turned out to be a great success. Competitors are judged by 4 judges from both a magical and layman background and will be awarded a trophy to keep with the title 'South Staffordshire Stage Magician Of The Year', and also 'The Ian McGarva Shield' to hold for one year. 2010/11 Winner: Craig Davies 2009/10 Winner: Dave Stevenson
South Staffordshire 'Harlequin Award' For Comedy This prestigious statuette is awarded during the Stage & Cabaret competition to the most humorous act and is theirs to hold for one year. 2010/11 Winner: Craig Davies 2009/10 Winners: The Wizards Of Odd (Aaron Hayes & Jonti Sparrow)
		South Staffordshire Desert Island Magic award. If you were stuck on an island, what would you take? This is for the best single effect performed on the "desert island magic night", not actually performed on a desert island! 2010/11 Winner: Jim Dickerson *Note, the desert island award may change slightly in colour and style compared to the one advertised.
South Staffordshire Spooky Magic Award This is a new award running for the first time in the coming season. Have your Halloween trick ready and you could be the first winner of the 3SM Spooky magic award! 2011/12 winner (to be announced at Halloween) *Note, the Spooky Magic award is also prone to change slightly when compared to the one shown, some think this is down to ghosts, others think it is due to other reasons.
